I was not going to review things but then I had a super mediocre time at another new sushi restaurant in Elk Grove on Sunday that made me really think about my first time visiting Yoshi.
Wait: 3/5 waiting was long, but there was basically only one sweet lady running around by herself. On occasion 1 guy came out to help and at the end another person probably the chef came out to say good bye so I would say be not starving if you're looking to go here so you'll be more relax.
Service: 4/5 look the wait is long but the lady is super cute and sweet. And then we got candy at the end, I like candy.
Food: 4.5/5
-grilled mackerel : good per boyfriend he ate it too fast I had no idea what happened to it
-mackerel battera sushi: yum. It is so good and worth it. I really enjoy this type of sushi. It's so simple, homey, and delicious. Would recommend if you enjoy saba
-salmon ochazuke: many places do not have this dish but it is a dish I will always order if I see it. And I am sooo glad I did! It was not very big and probably shouldn't be huge anyways. The flavoring is so spot on. It will make you feel utterly peaceful as you devour every single bite. It's a warm dish that doesn't make you feel too overwhelming hot in this Elk Grove heat. I usually like to order colder things this time of year. I could bath in this tea broth thing. It's incredible
-kitsune soba: a bit too light. I think I wanted the kitsune to be a bit stronger. And more would be great for a better kitsune to soba ratio. I would skip this next time but reorder everything else.
Now, I did not realize that it was almost closing time but we have been there a little too long since things took time to come out. But they came out around the same time so it wasn't like an awkward thing of staring at the other person eating their food while waiting for my own type of deal. (look at my last review. That is a terrible eating torture)
I think the chef came out in the end to thank us for waiting and give us candy. So really sweet.
Pick up was super popping! I think I will order pick up next time so I have time to order some dessert next door :) but the food here is really worth the try.

I decided to try out Yoshi again but dine-in this time since my first try was a takeout order.
Such a cute and quaint little spot with limited seating. I came with two other friends since they wanted to try out this spot ever since I raved about it.
We were seated immediately by a very friendly server who was rushing to attend every table. There was just one server and one chef, which makes sense why orders could take longer than usual.
Overall, it did take around ~50 minutes for our full order to come out. They did come in rounds but I didn't complain since everything tasted so delicious. The tempura batter was super light and crispy, we demolished it in seconds. The fish tasted soooo fresh and melted in our mouths. I would try these simple rolls over and over again. This is honestly one of the best authentic sushi spots in EG.
I did notice a few people walk in to place a to-go order. I remember trying to do it over the phone about two weeks ago -- which ended up being a fail because my calls weren't going through despite trying multiple times for a few days (yes, I was that desperate). I guess the best option is to go in person and place an order? Just a heads up for those who struggle to get through their landline. I cant blame them though since it gets busy fast and there's such a limited amount of staff/ingredients.
Amazing amazing amazing spot! Such a hidden gem.

This is the best sushi in Elk Grove. It is a tiny little restaurant tucked in the corner of the Walgreens strip mall at the corner of Laguna and Franklin. The service has always been great even though it's a family owned restaurant. I have been here since they opened and will continue to come here when I want Japanese food.

Pretty much *the* place for traditional Japanese comfort food in Sac county. The broth of the ten zaru udon and agedashi tofu had such a strong soothing umami taste and wasn't overly salty at all. The tempura pieces in the ten zaru udon entree were perfectly cooked with its lightly-battered crispiness. The geso ten appetizer though was just decent; coating was super crunchy but a bit greasy and the squid legs weren't the most tender.
Quite personable service. Very friendly server and some of the food was delivered to the table by the chef himself! Seems like there are a lot of regular customers as I witnessed staff addressing some of the customers here at the time by first name.
The only reason why I docked a star is because it took some time for the food to arrive at the table after ordering (about 40 minutes); was a little unexpected for a restaurant that seats less than 10 non-large groups.
Overall definitely a must-try if you're a fan of Japanese cuisine!

Best authentic Japanese food in Elk Grove! Quaint, Japanese owned and fresh sashimi! Sashimi is served on ice! How cool is that!

First time here and it did not disappoint. Fish was very fresh and the staff was very friendly. We will be back again.

Very cute, humble, family-owned restaurant! Cozy! Nice staff! Located in the shopping center on the corner of Laguna and Franklin and hidden behind Walgreens. Food offerings are very tasty! Menu offers a wide variety to choose from. Good sized portions. One of our favorites is the curry entrees. Delicious! The donburi bowls are great too! Service is a bit slow. Appears to have a small kitchen. Looking forward to going back! Would recommend!

Best sushi in Elk Grove by far! Warm friendly service and real sushi that isn't drowned in sauces!

Been going here for years with my family. Always delicious traditional japanese cuisine. The owner lady is so sweet and always says hello if she is in! Small shop. Very cute.
